The most enduring and comprehensive compilation of ancient myth to have survived from the ancient world, the Metamorphoses of Ovid has had a profound influence on the art and literature of the subsequent Western tradition.

Join us for a week of reading Book 8 of this work, in the original Latin, as we explore and discuss the myths of Daedalus and Icarus, Philemon and Baucis, and Althaea and Meleager among others.

This course is open to anyone of any ability in Latin, although please do note that we shall be studying and reading from the original Latin text. There will be no obligation to offer a translation, and grammar help will be given. The text will be available to download via PDF and a print-out will be provided for the week.
