A Journey for body and soul

Do you crave some time away from the busyness of life to boost your spiritual and physical wellbeing?

If you are short on time but longing to slow down and get some headspace, take part in a brand new Pilgrimage close to home. St Albans Cathedral has launched a new 35 mile walking route, starting from St Paul's Cathedral, London and finishing at St Albans Cathedral - shrine to Britain's first saint, Alban.

The 35 mile walk is split up into 5 stages, so you can walk one section or more at a time that suits you. The route takes in historic landmarks and serene landscapes - a true journey for the soul.


Stage One

9.3 miles - St Paul's Cathedral to Hampstead Heath Station

Stage Two

7.3 miles - Hampstead Heath Station to Woodside Park Tube Station

Stage Three

7.5 miles - Woodside Park Tube Station to Elstree Station

Stage Four

4.3 miles - Elstree Station to Shenley Tea Rooms

Stage Five

6.4 miles - Shenley Tea Rooms to St Albans Cathedral

This Pilgrimage route was first walked from 19 to 21 June 2019 to celebrate the launch of St Albans Cathedral's National Lottery Heritage funded project, Alban, Britain's First Saint. The pilgrims walked with a special booklet created for the occasion, which includes a selection of readings, prayers and food for thought and conversation. You are welcome to download the booklet below and use it on your journey if you wish to.
