For over 40 years, the Cathedral has been a film-friendly location, welcoming film and television crews from across the world from The Crown and Johnny English, BBC Dramas and photoshoot backdrops for the likes of Harry Potter promotion.

From major movies and television shows to commercials and still shoots, St Albans Cathedral has earned its reputation as an exceptional location for filmmakers and creatives alike.

  • A rich history of collaboration: Our team is here to ensure your shoot runs smoothly, from pre-production to wrap. Our site offers extra parking and green room spaces for crews to use. 

  • Versatile and unique architecture: With its towering presence,  the longest Nave in any English Cathedral, dramatic arches, and intricate stonework, St Albans Cathedral provides endless possibilities for creative cinematography.

  • Other properties: The Cathedral owns multiple other properties and spaces. From empty houses, large flats and office spaces.

    Photography

    All commercial filming and photography need to be pre-arranged and is subject to location fees.

    Tripods, lighting equipment and *drones are not permitted on site without prior arrangement. Wedding photography is exclusive to couples getting married at St Albans Cathedral.

    We are more than happy for members of the public to take photographs of the exterior and interiors of the Cathedral.
