On Tuesday 9 June at evening prayer, we welcomed members of the Mothers Union who had cycled all the way from York as they made their pilgrimage to St Paul’s cathedral for the 150th anniversary celebration service. Deb Lee MU Worldwide Board Trustee for Zone H (York) and Bev Julian a Lay Canon of this cathedral were among the group.

It was a joy to welcome them and to explore St Albans Cathedral with them telling the story of pilgrimage and hospitality of this cathedral as we sent them on to St Paul’s.

The Mothers Union is celebrating 150 years of faith, service and transformation, and members of branches around St Albans Diocese were gathered for the service at St Paul’s on Wednesday joining 1500 others. Members of the cathedral mother’s union branch represented us there.

Founded by Mary Sumner in Old Alresford, Hampshire, Mothers’ Union began as a small group supporting mothers in Christian faith and family life. Today, it spans six continents, with members working in local communities and through national and international programmes to strengthen families, advocate for justice and bring hope to those facing hardship and disadvantage.
