The Learning Executive is a permanent position which might be particularly suitable for recent graduates who would like to gain experience working in learning or heritage sectors. This position will be varied, with the successful candidate reporting to and working closely with the Adult Learning Officer, as well as closely working with the Education Officer, other staff, volunteers and external facilitators and stakeholders.

In an exciting and varied role which offers the opportunity for creativity and growth in confidence in a public-facing role, the post-holder will experience working within a busy Cathedral environment and interacting with people from all walks of life. They will learn how to host and deliver both online and in-person events, especially in the programme for adult learning, and will be at the forefront of the Cathedral’s initiative to continue developing its hybrid offer (events which are accessible both online and in-person simultaneously). They will also represent the Cathedral at our adult learning events, and liaise with and manage relationships with tutors, speakers, volunteers and students/attendees. They will also assist with the schools’ team, including the opportunity to train for and deliver trails to groups of school children, and with the learning team’s community engagement projects.

The successful candidate will be joining the Cathedral team during a period of exciting opportunities. In addition to its usual range of adult talks and courses, the Adult Learning programme is developing its range of high-profile speakers and hands-on heritage craft workshops. Recent high-profile speakers have included Lucy Worsley, Tracy Borman and Janina Ramirez. It is also developing the community engagement programme, including a new Justice Café which offers opportunities to engage with current issues and new audiences. There are also a variety of Cathedral installations or exhibitions planned, which allow for specific programming around these. As well as schools teaching, there may also be opportunities to undertake teaching within the Adult Learning programme where appropriate, and the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in study towards the Cathedral’s Certificate in Theology if desired.

This is a part-time role and will see the appointed candidate working 28 hours a week. Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to be flexible when these hours are allocated each week, as delivery of events (usually approximately max. 4-5 hours per week) will be during weekday evenings. Occasional events will also take place on Saturdays. The hours could be worked across 4 or 5 days a week depending on personal circumstances.

Applicants are invited to submit an application form and covering letter to Michelle Ovenden, Head of HR, by email to [email protected]

The closing date for applications is 24 July 2026.  Interviews will be held on Monday 3 August.
