Learning Adult Learning Post-beginners' Latin Book now When | Mondays 2 November to 7 December, 7.30 - c.9pmWhere | Alban Room, St Albans Cathedral* Cost | £85 A 6-week course which will help students to strengthen and develop their knowledge of the Latin language. Latin was the language of learning in Europe for nearly two thousand years. It still holds the key to many historic documents, inscriptions and mottos. Moreover, it provides the root for so much of the vocabulary of English, French, Italian and Spanish (amongst others). Latin Post-Beginners is a six-week course aimed at adults. It follows on from the beginners’ courses held over the last year or so. Newcomers are welcome to this class if they have studied some Latin in the past (even many years ago, at school). We have reached Stage 20 of the Cambridge Latin Course (fourth Edition), and the links below provide an opportunity to catch up with what we have covered so far. Cambridge Latin Course – online activities to practise your Latin: https://www.clc.cambridgescp.com/books/book-ii Online textbooks: https://www.clc.cambridgescp.com/web-book-2?p=1 The course will be held in person and will be based on Classical myths and the ever-popular Cambridge Latin Course with stories set in Roman Britain and Egypt. We shall deepen our knowledge of grammar and expand our vocabulary and will gain a picture of life in Roman Britain. We shall also read stories from the myths aloud in Latin. *The course has so far been successfully held with all sessions being in person, but if circumstances dictate (e.g. a Lockdown or storm) it may be necessary to hold sessions via Zoom.
