Booked tours

Our Cathedral Guides are ready and waiting to introduce your group to the fantastic stories of St Albans Cathedral and tours are often the highlight of any group’s visit. From architecture to pilgrimage, our Guides can tailor the content of the tour to your group’s interests.

We offer tours in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Italian – please mention language and any other requirements at the first stage of booking.

Discover the Cathedral

Our general tour will take your group through over 1700 years of history where you will learn about the story of Alban, discover the incredible architecture, wall paintings, and meet the many fascinating characters who make up the wonderful history of this building.

We also offer a full range of Specialist Tours, including:

  • Pilgrimage - learn about the practice of pilgrimage in the oldest site of Christian pilgrimage in Britain. Time your visit around the 22nd June, the annual St Albans Pilgrimage, one of the
    highlights of the Cathedral year.
  • Wall Paintings - discover the story behind the finest set of wall paintings in any medieval cathedral in England. Now including the wonderful new state of the art light projections on four of the paintings in the Nave which reveal how they may have looked in their medieval glory. 
  • Tower Tours - explore our thrilling tower for unrivalled views of the Cathedral and the Hertfordshire countryside.

General Tours: £7 per person (£6.50 concession)

Specialist Tours: £9 per person (£8.50 concession)

Tower Tours: £9.50 per person (£9 concession)

Tower Tour + one of our other tours for a full day experience: £14 per person (£13.50 concession)

An Update | 12 January 2021

Following the Prime Minister's announcement of a national lockdown on Monday 4 January, government regulations allow us to remain open and permit limited communal worship. In light of the government's messaging on staying at home, please do join us in our livestream service every Sunday.
