Following the announcement by the Prime Minister on Monday 23 March, the Cathedral is closed to the public until further notice. In these increasingly uncertain times, we recognise that now more than ever people are looking for ways to engage with Cathedral worship. Live streams and recordings of our services can be found on our YouTube channel.

The Cathedral's team of expert Cathedral Guides offer free guided tours every day, all year round*.

Our tours are a fun and fascinating way to find out about the history of the Cathedral, as well as seeing the hidden gems you may not have noticed otherwise! Experts on the history of St Albans Cathedral, our Guides offer up to three guided tours every day, and are also available to answer questions more informally in between.

Our hour-long daily guided tours also offer the opportunity to step back in time and see the nave's medieval wall paintings reconstructed using unique light projections.

  • 11.30am - Monday to Saturday - lasts 1 hour
  • 1.05pm - Daily Highlights Tour - lasts 25 minutes
  • 2pm - Saturday - lasts 1 hour
  • 2.30pm - Sunday to Friday - lasts 1 hour

*Occasionally services or special events mean it is not possible to run our regular tours. On these occasions our guides will still be available, however you may wish to contact us prior to your visit.

Our guided tours are completely free. All donations are gratefully received and go towards the daily upkeep of the Cathedral, which is free to enter. If you would like to donate prior to your visit, please scroll to the top of this page and click the Donate button.
