Join us on 20 June 2026 where we will continue to tell Alban's story.

Each year, thousands journey to St Albans to honour a story that shook an empire and lit the spark of Christianity in Britain. The Alban Pilgrimage is our city’s great retelling of courage: a vibrant procession, powerful worship, and a festival that fills the streets with colour, music, and life.

We walk because Alban walked - up the hill to give his life for faith, truth, and compassion. His act of extraordinary bravery transformed this place forever, and pilgrims have followed in his footsteps for over 1,700 years.

But the day is not only solemn - it’s joyful. It’s drums and banners, giant puppets and cheering crowds, children in costume, laughter in the streets, and a whole city coming alive in celebration.

And you are welcome to join us.

🎭 Young people: be a part of the story

We need children and youth to help bring the story of St Alban to life! Take part in the procession in costume — as Romans, soldiers, angels, or saints. We'd love children and young people aged 5 to 18 to be part of the day with us.

Meet the Preacher

We are delighted to welcome Ruth Dearnley OBE as the preacher for Alban Day 2026.

Ruth is the former Chief Executive Officer of Stop the Traffik, the global anti-human trafficking charity she helped to establish, and was awarded an OBE for services to the prevention of modern slavery. For over two decades she has worked internationally to combat exploitation, strengthen communities, and advocate for human dignity.

Her commitment to justice and protection for the vulnerable speaks powerfully to the story of St Alban — a man who chose courage and compassion in the face of injustice.
