This 5-week course will examine the content, structure, and theology of the Fourth Gospel, with particular attention to the Passion Narrative. The suffering and death of Christ have always stood at the centre of biblical and theological reflection, while also attracting significant interest from historical and interdisciplinary perspectives. Across the centuries, fundamental questions have continued to shape scholarly and theological debate: Why did Jesus suffer and die? What is the meaning of the Cross?

This course seeks to address these questions through a close study of the Johannine Passion Narrative, exploring the interaction between Christian exegesis, biblical theology, and theological hermeneutics in understanding the significance of the Cross.

Tutor: Dr Stefano Salemi

Date & Time: Tuesday evenings, 12 January - 9 February, 7.30-c.9.15pm
