Today we have announced that Revd Will Gibbs will be our new Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care, a new Residentiary Canon post that will support us in living out the Cathedral’s vision.

Will has been Vicar of Redbourn since 2006 and in that time, he has also served five years as Rural Dean and on General Synod and is currently the Chair of the House of Clergy and heads up the Diocese’s Living in Love and Faith study programme. Will also chairs the Verulam House Fund Trust and serves on the Diocesan Board of Patronage. In his spare time, Will captain’s the Diocesan Cricket Team and has two rabbits and an excitable cockapoo called Sweep.

Dean Jo said: “I am thrilled that Will is joining the Cathedral team as the first Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care.  Will’s profound commitment to making known the good news of Jesus Christ in word and action, and his deep commitment to pastoral care, are the perfect gifts to bring this new role to life in equipping the whole people of God.  Will also brings significant experience as a senior priest in St Albans Diocese and affirms our Cathedral commitment, as the Mother Church, to supporting and working in partnership with the communities of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.  We pray for this new partnership in ministry.  We also pray for Will and Claire, their daughters Olivia and Darcy, and the parish of Redbourn in this time of transition”.

Revd Will said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be appointed as the first Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care and I really look forward to working closely with Dean Jo and the Chapter, other Cathedral colleagues and the wider communities we serve. It is clearly a very exciting time for the Cathedral, with great opportunities ahead of us, and I look forward to playing a full part in all that God has in store for us together.”

We cannot wait to welcome Will and his family to the Cathedral family in the Autumn.
