St Albans Roman Festival
Celebrate Alban and the world in which he lived with the St Albans Roman Festival: Discover the Story! This 10 day festival is part of the launch of our Alban, Britain's first saint project. Join us as we unveil our new Welcome Centre, Exhibition Area and stunning audio visuals which tell the story of Alban, pilgrimage and the history of this amazing building.
This summer from Friday 21 – Sunday 30 June, join the city of St Albans as it discovers its Roman heritage during a 10-day festival with events fit for the whole family. Take a walk back in time to where it all began and celebrate the city’s past with all the amazing things St Albans has to offer today! Local organisations are getting involved to make it a real city-wide event, such as the Roman Amphitheatre and OVO, The Pudding Stop, St Albans City Guides and the St Albans Film Festival. Expect Roman-film showings, themed menus, historical city walks and talks, plays and performances, and much more!
A highlight of the Festival, and at the centre of it all, will be St Albans Cathedral. Join us as we mark Saturday 22 June, St Albans Day, with the hugely successful annual Alban Pilgrimage through the city, followed by the first Alban Fest!, a free festival to celebrate the launch of the Cathedral’s Heritage Lottery funded project Alban, Britain’s First Saint: Telling the Whole Story.
Taking place on the Abbey Orchard from 12-6pm on Saturday 22nd June, Alban Fest! will have something for everyone: Military battles and live displays by Ermine Street Guard, Medieval pilgrimage badge demonstrations by Lionheart replicas, and sculpting the Cathedral out of clay are only a few of the exciting entertainments we have in store, alongside crafts, games, food and music!
