St Albans & Hertfordshire Architectural & Archaeological Society Exhibition
As part of Residents: Enjoy St Albans weekend on 23rd & 24th January 2016, St Albans & Hertfordshire Architectural & Archaeological Society will be putting on a fascinating art exhibition in St Albans Cathedral. The exhibition will feature a collection of 19th century illustrations of Hertfordshire and London by Frederic George Kitton, who lived in St Albans from 1889 - 1904.
Kitton [1856-1904] moved to St. Albans with his wife in 1889 and was soon producing illustrations of St. Albans and Hertfordshire. In 1893 he collaborated with Charles Ashdown and produced some iconic drawings of St. Albans. He was one of the editors of Hertfordshire Illustrated Review [1893-1894]. He joined the Arc. and Arc. in 1897 and was a regular contributor to the Society’s Transactions producing articles on the Clock Tower and Old Inns of St. Albans. Outside St. Albans he was responsible for a number of books about Charles Dickens. The display in St. Albans Cathedral for Enjoy St. Albans (formerly Residents’ First weekend) will include work on St. Albans, Hertfordshire and elsewhere.
The exhibition will be placed in the north transept of the Cathedral and will be open 10am - 3.30pm on Saturday 23rd January and 1.30pm - 3.30pm on Sunday 24th January. We very much look forward to welcoming you! For more information on the other activities over the weekend please click here.
