Speaking with the Dead: Histories of Memory in Sacred Spaces

Dates: Wednesday 27th August - Friday 5th September 2014

For centuries, cathedrals have been at the heart of an ongoing dialogue between the living and the dead. Exploring the history of burial and commemoration in English and Welsh cathedrals over the past millennium, the “Speaking with the Dead” exhibition showcases the results of a major research project sponsored by the Leverhulme Trust. The exhibition in the Cathedral Library will feature images and artefacts from the Cathedral collections alongside informational displays.

  • To accompany the exhibition, there will be a public lecture by Professor Philip Schwyzer and Dr Naomi Howell on 'St Albans as a Site of Memory' on Tuesday 26th August, 7.30pm.
  • The exhibition will be open to view from 6.30pm on Tuesday 26th August.
