Leaving a Legacy
Leaving a legacy to St Albans Cathedral is one of the most effective ways that you can support the Cathedral and safeguard its work and mission for future generations.
Unlike many Cathedrals, St Albans does not have a significant endowment and is therefore highly dependent on the generosity of individuals and organisations that support our mission. However we also need to build for the future and to undertake important projects that simply cannot be funded from regular income.
Leaving a legacy, regardless of its size, makes a real difference to the Cathedral and as part of Chapter’s policy:
- All legacies are used to support the long-term development of the Cathedral, its work and worship.
- Your gift will be exempt from inheritance tax with none being spent on administration.
- You can specify whether your legacy is used for general cathedral purposes or music, fabric or education - which will be honoured by the Dean and Chapter.
Recent legacies have enabled the Cathedral to sponsor a chorister and to complete phase one of the much needed nave refurbishment project, for which the Cathedral is exceptionally grateful. None of this would have been possible without these legacies.
