Together with our Poet in Residence, Dan Simpson, St Albans Cathedral is delighted to offer schools the chance to take part in our exciting, new, creative poetry writing workshops.

Led either in person by Dan in the Cathedral with your pupils, or virtually by Dan and broadcast directly into your classroom, the workshops include ideas and techniques for finding inspiration, idea generation, and ultimately poetry writing. Finally, a performance coaching session will lead on to a celebration of creativity, as students share their work back.

Ideal for Key Stage 2 & 3, each workshop is between 60 - 90 minutes long and can cover a breadth of different topics to suit your needs. To find out more, please click on the link to meet Dan: Welcome from Dan

We were lucky enough to have Dan to deliver poetry workshops in Shanghai via Zoom - which our pupils loved! Dan's activities were creative and carefully structured to enable all students produce some beautiful, funny and very accomplished poetry. We were incredibly impressed that Dan was able to deliver such high-quality and engaging activities through the medium of Zoom, and this speaks to the energy and adaptability of his facilitation. We would definitely invite Dan back - virtually or in person, and couldn't recommend him highly enough.
