St Albans Cathedral Fireworks Spectacular
On Saturday 4th November, thousands of spectators at the annual St Albans Cathedral Fireworks Spectacular will be treated to an impressive display of fireworks, as well as a lively atmosphere with something for all the family.
Held in Verulamium Park, the Fireworks Spectacular is the largest display in the area and continues to attract in excess of 20,000 people every year and is produced by double winners of the British Fireworks Championships, Fantastic Fireworks of Redbourn. The display was started over 25 years ago as a way of reducing the number of fireworks accidents at home and over the years has raised over £750,000 for local and national charities. It is organised by St Albans Cathedral and a team of over 400 local volunteers, including members of the Cathedral congregation, youth groups and a number of local scout groups, the Round Table and the local Rotary club. All of this work is supported by this year’s headline sponsors, Debenhams Ottoway LLP – a leading local firm of solicitors whose history in the Hertfordshire community stretches back over 250 years.
This year’s nominated charities are Earthworks St Albans, an organisation which offers those with learning disabilities or mental health conditions the chance to receive training in horticulture and other land based skills. The second nominated charity is Waverley Driving Group RDA which provides carriage driving for the Disabled as part of the Riding for the Disabled initiative. The Revd Dr Kevin Walton, Canon Chancellor at St Albans Cathedral, said “the Cathedral is delighted to be organizing this popular community event which has been growing in size from year to year, thanks to our team of dedicated volunteers, and we look forward to welcoming thousands once again. We are also glad to be using this year’s display to support the work of Earthworks and Waverley Driving Group.”
Louise Attrup, Executive Partner of Debenhams Ottoway, said that the firm are “proud to be the inaugural headline sponsor of this year’s Fireworks Spectacular. It is without a doubt one of the biggest events on the St Albans calendar and we’re delighted that it will be raising money for two brilliant charities that help some of the most disadvantaged people in our community. We’ve been looking after St Albans families and businesses for over 250 years so to support this event felt like a natural fit for us”.
In addition to a stunning fireworks display, there will also be a Food Village, selling a variety of street food options, and licensed bars run by Outside Inns. These outlets will be open before, during and after the display until 9pm.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate on the night. Alternatively, if tickets are bought in advance you could save up to 30% when you buy through the Cathedral Box Office on 01727 890290 or www.stalbanscathedral.org or the Alban Arena Box Office on 01727 844488 or www.alban-arena.co.uk.
