Half Term Family Discovery Morning at St Albans Cathedral
On Thursday 26th October, St Albans Cathedral will be holding another of its popular Family Discovery Mornings, this time inspired by The Magic of the Movies.
Using the Cathedral and its surrounding area as inspiration, the morning will be devoted to considering the Cathedral in films and television and how producers and directors bring their visions to life. There will be opportunities to watch scenes from a number of dramatisations filmed at the Cathedral and visitors of all ages can create their very own storyboards.
Education Officer, Steve Clarke, said of the event ‘since we have been used as a location for various films, including Johnny English and First Knight, we wanted to put on an event that was all about film and animation. We thought this would be the perfect theme to make use of what we have in our archives as well as the building itself and hopefully get children interested in drawing in the process.’
Given the huge success of Johnny English, rumour has it that a copy of the original film script may be brought out of the Cathedral Archives. Children and adults alike can try their hand at storyboarding a scene from the script as if they were the director and see how the scene went from the page to the screen.
There will also be opportunities for our younger visitors to take a break from their morning of drawing and listen to stories.
The event is free of charge and all ages are welcome. Visitors can drop in any time between 10am and 12.30pm (arriving before 11.30am is advised to complete all the activities).
