Carols on the Hour at St Albans Cathedral
On Saturday 16th December, thousands are expected to attend an annual favourite in the St Albans calendar – Carols on the Hour at St Albans Cathedral. Between 11am and 4pm members of the public are invited to take a break from their Christmas shopping to enjoy a half hour carol service featuring the Cathedral’s Abbey Girls Choir, Parish Singers and Parish Juniors, and Classical Chorus St Albans, the St Albans Big Sing and the choir of St Peter’s. Suitable for all the family, ‘Carols on the Hour’ gives visitors the chance to get a real taste of Christmas in this beautiful, atmospheric Cathedral.
11am: St Peter's Choir
3pm: St Albans Big Sing
The Reverend Canon Kevin Walton, Canon Chancellor at St Albans Cathedral said of the event ‘We have been stunned by the success of Carols on the Hour as it has grown massively year by year. It shows that there is a real desire in the public to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas in this busy season.’
Carols on the Hour is free, but collections will be taken throughout the day, with a percentage of donations received going to charity. As part of its mission giving, St Albans Cathedral is supporting Save the Children this year – a charity that raises vital funds to give children across the world protection from harm and the chance to learn. In doing so, aiming to change the way the world treats children and allow for immediate, yet lasting changes. Save the Children’s annual Christmas jumper day is Friday 15th December, so why not pull on your most festive jumper for Carols on the Hour and have fun while entering into the festive spirit and raising money for charity.
