St Alban's Abbey Girls Choir go on tour to Paris
St Albans Abbey Girls Choir will be visiting Paris at the end of May. The choir which, consists of around 20 girls who attend many local schools, will perform at three churches in the French capital. On Saturday 28th May at 6pm the choir will sing mass at the famous church of Saint-Eustache, and on Sunday 29th May at 10.30 they will sing Eucharist at St George's Anglican Church. The following day, Monday 29th May, will see the choir giving a lunchtime concert at 1pm at the church of Saint-Sulpice, the city's second largest church. Music to be performed includes works by Mendelssohn and Parisian composers Fauré and Langlais.
The choir undertakes a foreign tour every couple of years, and previous tours have taken the choir to Dublin, Copenhagen and the USA. Tom Winpenny, Director of the Abbey Girls Choir, said 'We are delighted to have the opportunity to perform in some of the most prestigious churches in Paris. The girls have been preparing the music for the trip very well, and gave a well-received pre-tour concert at St John's, Boxmoor, last Saturday."
