A Celebration of Local Musical Talent – 2016 St Albans Young Musicians’ Competition
Now in its fifth year, the St Albans Cathedral Music Trust is inviting local musicians to take part in the 2016 St Albans Young Musicians Competition.
The competition is a celebration of local musical talent and gives budding school-aged musicians an opportunity to perform in the stunning setting of the Cathedral’s nave, the longest in Britain.
To enter the competition students or teachers are invited to upload a short sound file to www.stalbansymc.org.uk by 5 February 2016. Entry is free and students can enter the competition under a number of categories, including vocal ensemble, strings, bass, wind and soloist. Every genre of music is welcome and past entrants have included Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’ to Shubert’s ‘Romanze.’
Entrants will be shortlisted and successful musicians invited to take part in the Finals Competition which takes place in the Cathedral’s Nave on Sunday 28 February 2016. The competition gives students a unique performance opportunity along with the chance to win £100.
Building on the success of the 2015 Competition, which attracted over 200 students from the St Albans area, the 2016 Competition will follow the same format as last year, with the primary school categories performing during the first half of the afternoon followed by the secondary school categories.
