Easter Holiday Children’s Activities at St Albans Cathedral
Two special events are being held for younger visitors at St Albans Cathedral during the Easter school holidays.
On Tuesday 14th April, a special workshop is taking place called ‘Stunning Statues’. Children will create their very own 3D clay models, taking inspiration from the many statues in the Cathedral and those that feature in popular books and films including The Hobbit and Harry Potter. The workshops also herald the arrival of seven new statues at the Cathedral, specially created to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the current building’s completion and dedication back in 1115. Children will learn all about the new statues, including who they feature and the amazing skills involved in making them.
Stunning Statues is suitable for children aged 7-11 and takes place at 10.30am and 2pm. Tickets cost £6 (or £10 for 2) and are available from the Cathedral Box Office on 01727 890290 and online at: www.stalbanscathedral.org/whatson/family
On Thursday 16th April visitors can also enjoy a free Family Discovery Morning, ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’. Children follow a fun trail around the building, taking part in activities and discovering the huge rainbow of colours that can be seen. They can also enjoy making their very own kaleidoscope and creating a giant stained glass window. The Family Discovery Morning takes place from 10am to 12.30pm and is suitable for children aged 3 to 11.
Education Officer Steve Clarke said, “The Cathedral really comes alive in spring time and this is a fantastic opportunity to explore and learn all about the beautiful colours and amazing statues to be found in the building. Learn things you never knew before and take part in a wonderful craft activity.”
