Cathedral Study Centre Launches Spring Programme
Fri, 10 January 2014
On Saturday 25th January, Dr Mark Vernon leads an enriching study day at St Albans Cathedral Study Centre exploring 'The Meaning of Friendship'.
Mark, who began his professional life as a priest in the Church of England, holds numerous degrees and boasts an impressive bibliography tackling key philosophical questions, including 'How To Be An Agnostic' and 'Love: All That Matters’.? His exploration of human nature and relationships led him to examine the notion of modern friendship. ‘I'm particularly interested in not only the promise of friendship, why it is so much part of a good life’, he says, ‘but its rules and perils – when it goes wrong’.? These joys and limitations, as well as reflection on the place of friendship in society and religious traditions, can be expected to come under scrutiny in what Mark promises will be 'a mix of the personal and theoretical’.
Adult Learning Officer, Dr Clare Coombe, commented, ’Like everything we offer here at the Study Centre, this day promises to challenge us, and to make us reconsider our own assumptions and the way in which we view our lives and beliefs.’
