Get Ready for a Heated Debate at St Albans Cathedral

Wed, 13 November 2013

On Thursday 14th November St Albans Cathedral Education Centre will host its 12th annual Sixth Form Conference. Over 600 students from schools across the region will join together in the nave of the Cathedral for a morning of debate with a panel of high profile speakers.

The format is based upon the BBC Programme 'Question Time' and gives students the opportunity to ask and discuss ethical, political and global questions. It is sponsored by the Sylvia Adams Charitable Trust.

The panel for this year's conference comprises of: Sir Stephen Lander KCB (former Director General of MI5), David Lidington MP (Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office), Nick Raynsford MP, Rt Revd Dr Alan Smith (Bishop of St Albans), Camilla Tominey (Sunday Express Royal Editor) and Stuart Winter (Sunday Express Environment Editor).  Award winning journalist Samira Ahmed returns to chair this unique event.

Steve Clarke, Education Officer at St Albans Cathedral, said, “The Sixth Form Conference is always a great opportunity for students to debate topical issues with those who are in Government, media, or the public eye. It gives them a voice, and allows students to recognise that national issues are relevant to their everyday lives.”
