Bank Holiday Abbey Girls Choir Concert
Thu, 18 April 2013
A lunchtime Bank Holiday treat is in store for visitors to St Albans Cathedral on Monday 6th May at 1pm. The acclaimed Abbey Girls Choir will be giving a free concert of music spanning five centuries.
The concert begins at 1pm and will last about 45 minutes. It includes music by Poulenc, Mendelssohn, Boyce, and Stanford as well as music by John Rutter and even an arrangement of a famous classic by Jerome Kern. The choir will be accompanied on the organ by Justin Miller, Organ Scholar at the Cathedral, who will also play two popular organ solos.
Tom Winpenny, Director of the Abbey Girls Choir, said ‘This is a rare chance to hear the Abbey Girls Choir perform in concert. We have chosen a wide variety of music from our extensive repertoire, including well-known works and more unfamiliar pieces. We will be performing not only sacred music – which forms the core of our repertory – but also works in a lighter vein. So there should be something for everyone!’
Admission free. Concert duration: 45 minutes approx. Retiring collection. Not suitable for small children. For further information: Cathedral Information Desk 01727 860780.
