The Roman Experience at St Albans Cathedral

Wed, 12 September 2012

St Albans Cathedral Education Centre is pleased to announce that it will once again be holding its popular Roman Festival this month. Key Stage 2 pupils from local schools will be exploring everyday life in Roman Times through drama and hands on activities.

Using role play, the children travel back 2000 years to Roman Verulamium, where they re-enact the story of Alban - Britain's first martyr.

Children are given the chance to prepare and sample dishes for a tasty and authentic cena or dinner party. They will also take part in a 'blanket dig' to discover and explore finds from modern times back to the Romans and beyond, using genuine artefacts over 2000 years old.

Steve Clarke, Education Officer at St Albans Cathedral, said, "We're delighted to be hosting our Roman Festival again this year and look forward to welcoming over 500 children to this exciting event."

The Roman Festival runs from 17th - 24th September 2012.
