Order of Service for Preaching of the Passion Order of Service for The Liturgy of Good Friday Chrism Eucharist - Thursday 28 March, 11am During Chrism Eucharist the three oils for baptism, confirmation, and healing will be blessed, the former two of which will be used on Holy Saturday for baptism and confirmation. The preacher in this service will be the Bishop of Hertford, and the service will be sung by the Parish Singers. Order of Service for Chrism Eucharist Maundy Eucharist - Thursday 28 March, 8pm Our holy week preacher The Rt Revd Christine Hardman gives the sermon during our Maundy Thursday Eucharist, in which members of the congregation have their feet washed by the clergy. This recounts Jesus' performance of this action and his words afterwards : "I I then...have washed your feet, you also ought to was one another's feet." The word 'Maundy' comes from the 'mandatum', the Latin first word of the Biblical quotation "I give you a new commandment, That you love one another as I have loved you". The girls and lay clerks of the Cathedral Choir sing Missa Aedis Christi (Howells), Ubi Caritas (Duruflé), and As the Father hath loved me (Moore). At the end of the service the altars are stripped, followed by a vigil of prayer until midnight in the Lady Chapel which will not be streamed. The congregation then process through to the Crossing, for the rest of the service including the telling of the Passion to a setting of music by Mark Sanders. The mass is set to music by Igor Stravinsky.
