Tracing Faith in Harry Potter

Thu, 7 December 2017

Since the first Harry Potter book was published 20 years ago, J. K. Rowling's book series has attracted both great fame and intense criticism. Books have been burned publically and banned from some schools in a response to perceived anti-Christian subtexts. Yet Rowling has spoken about her Christian faith, and we can find passages from the Bible in her novels. We mark the 20th anniversary of this book series with a talk which explores the Biblical parallels in the Harry Potter novels and questions whether we can find theological significance in them.
