The Dean's Lecture: Paul's Religion - Rules or Relationship?

Thu, 26 October 2017

We'll look at the background to all the letters attributed to Paul, and note which ones are not written by him, and how his teaching evolves in the letters according to time and place. We'll see how Paul's conversion from Judaism shaped his own understanding of Jesus and what he means for us, and in particular his understanding of religion as faith and love in contrast to Law. We'll also look at Paul's 'mysticism' – his view of the sacraments, resurrection, sex, and what he means by being united with Christ as part of his Body.
