The Lowliness Of His Handmaiden: Mary the Marginalised

Sat, 10 March 2018

The Bible is a rich treasure trove of narratives, and narratives within narratives. This study day on Mary considers the 'story within the story' of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in Luke's Gospel. Are there echoes of Old Testament narratives within the story of Mary? Within the character of Mary, can we hear the distant strains of one of the most neglected and problematic women in the Old Testament? If so, what does this say about Mary, and about Jesus himself? This day will consider insights into Mary from liberation theology and art to explore the riches of this central character in the story of salvation.
