St Albans Certificate in Theology Plus
SACT+ is an extension to the St Albans Certificate in Theology, which will allow students who have completed SACT to work for a further certificate, taking between a year and three years on average to complete, depending on module choices. SACT+ develops the skills and knowledge that introduced by SACT, and will require more guided independent study and a higher level of assignment.
There are no compulsory modules, and students are encouraged to choose modules which build upon interests from their previous studies. As well as modules which are only suitable for SACT+ students, it may also be possible to take short course options from SACT, although the required outcomes and assessment will be of an appropriate higher level, and greater independent study will be expected. Study support remains available, and SACT+ students will receive free membership of St Albans Cathedral Library.
60 credits must be taken from the optional modules, which vary from term to term. They are intended to offer more in-depth study of a particular area covered in the SACT core modules, or to give the possibility of broadening students' theological study by giving introductory courses to related subjects (for example, philosophy). See our course webpages or Study Centre term brochure for the modules being offered each term. Examples coming up are:
Dissertation (20 credits)
Latin (offered at a range of levels, 10 credits)
New Testament Greek (offered at a range of levels,10 credits)
Old English (offered at a range of levels, 10 credits)
Christian Ethics (10 credits)
Passion Narratives (10 credits)
The Book of Isaiah (10 credits)
Guidance on available modules
All modules which are eligible to be taken for SACT+ are indicated as such on their webpages or in the programme. If you are in any doubt, please look at this guidance page, or contact us for more information. We will be more than happy to help you choose suitable options.
How to apply
Who can enrol? SACT+ is aimed primarily at those who have completed SACT. It would also be appropriate for those who have completed other courses in theology or similar training. It is possible to audit any SACT+ modules without having taken SACT, but students should be aware that there will be an expectation of prior knowledge.
