Great Theologians (SACT & SACT+)
Thu, 2 May 2019
‘‘What is the nature of God?’ ‘How does God relate to the world?’ ‘What is the point of prayer?’ ‘Who is Jesus of Nazareth?’ ‘How should we do theology?’ This course investigates classic responses to some of the most challenging theological questions through a tour of the life and works of some great theologians, including, amongst others, Augustine of Hippo, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Karl Barth and James Cone. The course will also introduce key female commentary and voices of theologians from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Despite their differences and disagreements, these great theologians all share a deep conviction that God is a dynamic, living reality to be wrestled with in the midst of human history. Through a guided study of key texts in Christian theology, students will be challenged to consider how we might make sense of faith, God and society in the contemporary world.
