To coincide with Alan and Tracey Micklethwaite's installation, 'Between Worlds', this one-day course is an introduction to relief carving in stone. You will be taught to use the basic tools and techniques of stone carving to produce a small piece of relief sculpture, which will be yours to keep. This might be a Celtic knot, a Tudor rose, or maybe a simple design of your own. No previous experience is necessary, and all tools and materials will be provided.

About Alan | Alan has been carving stone for more than 30 years. After studying Fine Art at Hull school of Art and design, he Trained as a stone carver at Lincoln Cathedral in the early 1990’s and has since gone on to carve stone sculpture for restoration projects on historic buildings throughout the UK and Ireland, as well as contemporary sculpture commissions. In recent years, Alan has carried out restoration carving, conservation work and lettering inscriptions here at St Alban’s Cathedral, most notably carving work for the restoration of the St Amphibalus Shrine.
