Rebirth and Reform

This tour explores the history of St Albans Abbey in the 1400 and 1500s.  Hear about the Abbot John of Wheathampstead and his royal friend, Humphrey Duke of Gloucester who took an early interest in Renaissance humanist ideas. Learn about the composer of early English Renaissance music buried here and see the changes to the building that took place during this period both before and after the monastery was closed.
