Join The Revd Dr Kevin Walton for this 5-week course to learn more about storytelling in the Bible.

When it comes to stories in the Bible we assume their purpose to be moral or theological instruction, not being written simply to entertain. However, parts of the Bible have been described as stories or novella, displaying elements found in fiction, such as plot, characterisation, humour, suspense, and where didactic intent is often hard to find. This course will look at five stories: of Joseph, Ruth, Jonah, Esther, and Tobit. We will aim to appreciate these delightful books as literature, consider the questions of truth and fiction, and ask what particular perspectives they bring to the canon of scripture.
