Despite the rain, thousands turned out to see the annual Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday 2 November, the largest fireworks display in the area which has been running for more than 25 years

In that time it has raised over £750,000 for charity, and this year’s nominated charities were the Hospice of St Francis and Youth Talk St Albans.

The Sub Dean of St Albans Cathedral, the Rev’d Abi Thompson, said, “The fireworks were magnificent, despite the rain, and it was great to be able to facilitate such a wonderful event for all ages once again. Most important of all is the opportunity to support local charities working so tirelessly with members of our community – something we hope to be doing for many years to come.”

The event, sponsored by solicitors Debenhams Ottaway, was organised by the Cathedral’s Fireworks Team, and chair Paul Dean thanked all the volunteers who made it possible.

“In the wind and the rain our community partners all pulled together. We would like to thank everyone involved, in particular the St Albans District Explorer Scouts, for their superhuman efforts and support for this remarkable community occasion.”
