Prayers at the Peace Obelisk Today, 6 August, marks the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Last Sunday a group of over 30 people from across the churches in St Albans gathered to anticipate this anniversary and to offer prayers for world peace at the Peace Obelisk outside St Albans Cathedral. The peace obelisk was given to the Cathedral by the people of Japan in gratitude for Dean Thicknesse and his message of solidarity and support at that time in the wake of the devastation and suffering caused. It has recently been moved to a more prominent position in Sumpter Yard and with ongoing conflict in many parts of our world and worrying unrest in our own land, it is really good to be able to pray together for the peace that God longs for the world and its people.
