For Ash Wednesday this year the clergy were out in St Albans city centre offering Ash to Go. This extends our church's offering beyond our doors on the holy day.

Anyone on the go in town was able to stop by and learn a bit about Ash Wednesday.

It was also a great chance for the clergy to meet others in the local community.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the season of Lent. Christians use this season to prepare for the great Feast of Easter, when we celebrate that Love conquers death, at the resurrection of Jesus. During these forty days many people give things up as a sign of getting ready and making space to welcome the love of God in.

But it is also a time of giving to other people, and for repenting the things that separate us from God’s love. Having Ash put on our forehead as a badge to remind us of these things give this day its name.
