Come and experience this ancient building in meditative silence as we reflect on the season of Advent.

The lead up to Christmas can be packed with parties and people. It can also be a time of stress and over-busy diaries. At St Albans Cathedral we love to join in the fun, but we also recognise the need for us all to re-charge our batteries and find a quiet space.

On three Mondays during Advent the Cathedral is open from 7.30pm for Quiet Abbey. An opportunity for you to come and spend an evening in this ancient building, lit by candles and in complete silence. Use the space as you will – for prayer, for silent meditation, for reading some poetry or just clearing your mind of all the clutter. There will be opportunities to find an empty chapel, or to rest in front of the Blessed Sacrament, or to gaze at our new wall paintings in the nave. Each evening will finish with a quiet act of worship. Come and find rest for your souls.

Each Quiet Abbey will conclude with a brief act of worship or meditation focused an a theme or feature of the Cathedral.
