An opportunity to develop an extended piece of supported independent research for the Certificate in Theology (or Certificate +).

The Extended Essay is for those who have completed at least two core modules of SACT, and the Dissertation is for those who have completed two or more modules of SACT+. Based on a research proposal, students complete a 5,000 word (SACT) or 8-10,000 word (SACT +) essay/dissertation, with the support of a supervisor.

The choice of topic is open to the student, provided that it fits within a theological framework, and a supervisor will help advise on a specific title. Supervisors are allocated according to their areas of expertise. Each student should meet twice with their supervisor (online or in person) over the course of the process, and may also seek support from the supervisor or Adult Learning Officer via email.

Students are also required to attend an online study skills session with the Adult Learning Officer on research methods and writing skills, and to present some early work to fellow students in an informal seminar.
