Speaker | Nick Spencer

AI is rarely out of the headlines. Sometimes it’s hopeful. Elon Musk says AI will work for us. Sometimes it’s pessimistic: AI will take our jobs. And sometimes it’s just weird, like the Google engineer who claimed AI was conscious. At the heart of all these discussions is the big imponderable: what will AI become? Will AI develop human-like intelligence (has it already?) Will it become sentient or conscious? When will it deserve rights? Will it even develop a soul?  In this talk, Nick Spencer, Senior Fellow at the Theos think tank and author of Playing God: Science, religion and the future of humanity, will look at science and religion, AI and humanity in the future and argue that so many of our conversations on this matter miss out the one really important factor.
