Explorer bags are available from the Book Stall. This will give you clues and objects to track down around this large building and discover some of our "secrets".
There is a free brochure that features a special trail around the building, filling in the clues. Once correctly completed, take it to the Information Desk for a small prize.
“Christopher of St Albans” is the logo adopted for the Family Events run in the cathedral. During school holidays Family Friendly Guides are on hand to help explain the heritage of this great building to younger visitors. On Thursday mornings during February, May and October half terms, one week of the Easter holidays and four weeks in August, we run specially themed Family Discovery Mornings (10.30-12.30) which combine exciting trails and crafts. All free.
10.30am - 12.30pm. Suitable for ages 3-11.
16th February - All in the Family. This trail will look at families connected to the Cathedral; the famous, the infamous and the outrageous.
12th April - Diamonds are Forever. In this Diamond Jubilee year we take a look at anniversaries and their celebration as well as precious stones and metals.
7th June - We're Going on a Journey. St Albans has been chosen as one of the world’s centres of Green Pilgrimage. Discover our credentials as the only Green Pilgrimage site in England and find out something about the other sites.
2nd August - Beyond Borders. To celebrate London 2012 this trail will focus on the Olympic ideals of international friendship, respect and excellence and children can design their very own medal!
9th August - Make Your Mark. Books have been made and used here for many hundreds of years. But have people used other ways of recording stories and events?
16th August - As Holey as a Swiss Cheese. Discover holes big or little, empty or full, all playing their part in the appearance of the Cathedral.
23rd August - Look at Me/ I’m Not Wearing That! A look at some unlikely clothes and costume on figures around the Cathedral.
30th August - My Hero/ What’s in a Name? This trail coincides with the start of the Paralympics - the elite sport events for athletes with a disability, where inspirational people show courage and determination. Discover some famous role models in the Cathedral.
25th October - The Big Draw. Be a part of this national campaign and get creative at the Cathedral!
All children attending the trails or activity mornings must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All Guides who wear the Christopher badge have been CRB checked to work with families within the building.
