Summer Holiday Family Fun at St Albans Cathedral

FREE Summer Activities for Children at St Albans Cathedral

discovery-morningSt Albans Cathedral has a busy programme of family activities for the summer holidays – and they won’t cost you a fortune.

Themed Discovery Mornings take place each Thursday in August from 10.30am to 12.30pm.  The whole family can enjoy a fascinating trail around the building and finish the morning with a related craft activity.  The theme of the summer Discovery Mornings is the four elements:

4th August: Up, Up and Away – Air

11th August: The Fiery Furnace – Fire

18th August: Water, Water Everywhere – Water

25th August: Down to Earth – Earth

Suitable for children aged 3-11, and lots for grown ups to find out about too.

Visitors can also join one of the Family Trails with the Cathedral Guides.  These take place weekdays at 11:00am and 2:00pm throughout the holidays.  Or if you want to go it alone, Explorer Bags are available from the Cathedral Bookshop. Each bag has clues and objects to track down around the building.

Canon Kevin Walton said, “Children always have a great time exploring the nooks and crannies of this ancient building and learning about Saint Alban who gave the City its name.  We very much look forward to welcoming local families and visitors from further afield during the summer holidays.”

And for families in need of a pit-stop once the exploring is done, The Café at the Abbey serves children’s meals and take-away picnics.
