Tower Tours are back at St Albans Cathedral

Tower Tours are back at St Albans Cathedral

tower-tours.jpgVisitors to St Albans Cathedral can once again enjoy a tour of the Tower on selected weekends throughout the summer and early autumn.

The Tower has been closed to the public for over 18 months whilst 13 new bells have been installed and essential restoration work has taken place.

The tour takes visitors up 193 steps, winding through narrow, mediaeval staircases and passageways to the roof of the Norman Tower.  On the way there are stunning views of the Cathedral interior, including the great rose window, and a visit to the ringing chamber.  Higher up the Tower, visitors also get to see the new bells before heading out onto the roof to enjoy extensive views in all directions.

The Revd Canon Kevin Walton said, We are extremely pleased visitors to St Albans Cathedral can once again enjoy this unique experience.  Our Sunday tours will also include a bell ringing demonstration so visitors can hear the new bells in action.”

The first Tower Tours take place on Saturday June 4th at the following times: 10.00, 11.30, 13.00, 14.30.  Only 12 persons each tour.

Tickets cost £6 (minimum age 11) and are available from the Cathedral Bookshop (01727 890213). Tour dates and numbers are limited and restrictions do apply.
