The Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban

The Cathedral’s 13 new bells, which arrived in 2010, will officially ring for the first time on Easter Sunday.
A considerable amount of repair and health and safety work has been undertaken since the bells were hoisted into position to ensure the Cathedral’s Norman tower is a much improved space, including new lighting and electrics, smoke detection system and sound-proofing. All this necessary work is now complete and the bells will officially ring for the first time on Easter Sunday.
Commenting on this latest development, The Dean of St Albans Cathedral, the Very Revd Dr Jeffrey John said; “Easter Sunday marks the end of Holy Week, the most important week in the Christian calendar when Christians around the world commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Hearing the bells ring on Easter Sunday will be an extremely fitting way to make the day even more special. Once again our thanks go to everyone who has played a role in bringing this project to fruition.”
