The Cathedral is an enthusiastic proponent of education dating back to medieval times as a centre of learning.

With the Education Centre welcoming more than 16,000 school children each year, the Cathedral is passionate about its role as a provider of education and enrichment. Our achievements regularly attract awards and our educators are generous in sharing their time and ideas with others. The St Albans Cathedral Education Trust is also responsible for the St Albans Centre for Christian Studies (known locally as the ‘Study Centre’), which offers a range of courses, and draws students of many ages and of many denominational backgrounds and none.

Because of the popularity of all these activities, space is limited, and so to meet the current and future educational needs and aspirations, the Cathedral, through the Education Trust, is exploring the possibility of a new onsite and purpose-built education centre, offering a holistic range of facilities for education and welcome. In this way, it is seeking to continue its Benedictine tradition of learning and hospitality.
